Royal Enfield  5 speed Criterion:

Said to be better than the 4 speed in almost every way.

This 5 speed box has to be the Enfield gearbox of choice,  it's a wider ratio box than the standard 4 speed and it's smoother.

Designed & developed in the UK by Dr. Stuart McGuigan.

A second hand 5 speed was sold on ebay for £250 recently, which is a good price.

They do not make the extended main shaft for this gearbox. However a extended welded shaft can be had form Price part motorcycles. Trials gears are not available either, not that I would waste money on trials gears for this box as it is a wider ratio than the standard 4 speed box.

If I was to use a 5 speed with a twin cylinder engine, I would have to make sure that the shaft was strong enough to do the job. I think I'd slip a strengthening sleeve over the shat just to make sure. A fine thread cut in to the shaft and in side of the sleeve should sort it.
